some key steps and strategies that will be employed by the architect, to integrate energy efficiency into the design for The Legacy Center:

1. Building Orientation and Site Analysis:

  • Will begin by analyzing the building’s site to understand its climate, prevailing winds, and solar exposure.
  • Orientation of the building and its windows to maximize natural daylighting and passive solar heating is key, while minimizing heat gain during hot seasons.
  • We will incorporate natural landscaping features and shade elements to reduce the building’s energy demand.

2. Building Envelope Design:

  • Insulation R values will be increased throughout the levels of walls, roof, and floor assemblies to reduce heat transfer between the interior and exterior.
  • Low-e windows and glazing systems will be used throughout the building envelope and I will also implement proper insulation, solar control, and daylighting.
  • Air leakage will be minimalized by using airtight construction techniques, sealing gaps, and employing weatherstripping.

3. Efficient HVAC Systems:

  • The engineers will design an efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system tailored to the building’s needs and utilize energy-efficient equipment such as high-efficiency furnaces, heat pumps, or rooftop units.
  • The engineers will also incorporate zoned HVAC controls to provide individualized comfort and minimize energy waste in unoccupied areas.

4. Lighting:

  • All light sources will be LED or CFL lighting fixtures throughout the building, as they are highly energy-efficient and have a longer lifespan.
  • Per the amended Georgia Building Code, we will utilize occupancy sensors, timers, and daylight sensors to automatically control lighting and reduce energy consumption when spaces are unoccupied or natural light is available.

5. Renewable Energy Integration:

  • We will explore the possibility of integrating renewable energy systems, such as solar panels or wind turbines, into the building design to generate clean electricity on-site.
  • We will then assess the building’s energy demands and consider the appropriate size and capacity of renewable energy systems to offset a portion of the energy consumption.

6. Water Efficiency:

  • All plumbing fixtures will be water-efficient fixtures such as low-flow toilets, faucets, and showerheads to reduce water consumption.
  • Systems will be implemented to harvest rainwater in systems for non-potable water uses like landscape irrigation or toilet flushing.

7. Energy Management Systems:

  • Our team will recommend an energy management system (EMS) to monitor, control, and optimize the building’s energy consumption. EMS can provide real-time data on energy usage, identify inefficiencies, and enable automated control of lighting, HVAC, and other systems for optimal energy performance.

8. Commissioning and Monitoring:

  • The engineers recommend that the Owner plan for post-construction commissioning to ensure that all energy systems and components are installed and functioning correctly.

THE IMMEDIATE NEED

Our program is a minimum 6-month in-house program providing housing, meals, mental health and medical services, transportation, employment readiness, recreation and mentoring services to our members. We are using a temporary safehouse until our facility is built. Your donation provides for transportation, housing, food, and victim services. If you can help in whole or part, we greatly appreciate you being a part of giving them safe passage during this time.

*$5,000 donation-Can provide a six-week stay at our safehouse for four(4) women. *$2,500 donation-Can provide mental health and medical services for eight-weeks for one (1) member. (These services are provided the entire 6- months of the program). *$1,000 donation-Can cover daily meals(breakfast/lunch and dinner) for our 14 survivors for 1 week.
